Running SIMetrix for Windows

This page provides information that you may find useful when you start SIMetrix for the first time.

Instructions

  1. Install SIMetrix or SIMetrix/SIMPLIS if you have not already done so. See Installing SIMetrix for details.
  2. If you are using a network version, make sure the network license manager is installed and running. See Installing Network Licensing for details. Note that if you are upgrading from version 4.5 or earlier, we recommend that you update the license server to the latest version. If you intend to mix use of SIMetrix version 4.5 (or earlier) with version 5 (or later) from the same license server, then it is essential that the license server is updated. For information on how to do this see Updating License Server.
  3. If you are using a portable (dongled) version, make sure that the dongle is now plugged in and its red LED is lit. If the LED does not light then, the dongle driver is probably not installed. See Installing Dongle Driver for assistance
  4. To start SIMetrix or SIMetrix/SIMPLIS click on the 'SIMetrix 5.0' icon under the Windows 'Start->Programs' menu
  5. You may now be prompted for licensing information. If so proceed to the following steps. If you have a standalone or portable license and installed from a physical CD that we shipped to you, then the licensing information may have been automatically installed from the CD and no further action is needed.
  6. If you need to enter licensing information, you will first see this box:



    If you are using a 'Network' license, select 'Network' otherwise select 'Stand Alone or Portable'
  7. If you pressed 'Network' you will now see the following. Otherwise skip to the next step.




    Enter the host name of the machine that is running the license server. You may also enter the machine's IP address. When you press 'Close' SIMetrix will attempt to check out the license from the server and if successful, SIMetrix will start normally. If not you will be invited to reenter the license information (back to the previous step). If you are unsuccessful, please see Diagnosing License Problems
  8. If you entered 'Stand Alone or Portable' then you will now see:




    Press the 'Install License...' button then locate the license file that we supplied you. License files always (and must have) the extension .lic. If all is well SIMetrix will start normally. If not you will be invited to reenter the license information (back to the previous step). If you are unsuccessful, please see Diagnosing License Problems
