Exporting Graphics from the Waveform Viewer

This article describes a problem along with a cure that occurs when graphics are pasted from SIMetrix to another application such as Microsoft Office. The problem results in Y-axis graph text being corrupted.

The problem only applies to versions 5.0 to 5.1c. Releases 5.1d and later do not suffer from this problem

The Problem

The following picture demonstrates the problem. This was copied using Edit | Copy Graphics | Colour to an old word processor program

The Cause

The problem occurs because SIMetrix uses a command in the graphics format that isn't supported by some applications. Fortunately most modern applications do support this command, but some require you to specify a particular method to paste the graphics. Below we show how to paste graphics into various Microsoft Office applications.

Using with Microsoft Office

Most of the latest versions of Microsoft office work OK and require no special action. Some version require you to use the menu Paste Special... then select Picture (Enhanced Metafile). The following describes what is required for each product that we have tested:

Microsoft Word 2000 Use Paste Special... then Picture (Enhanced Metafile)
Microsoft Excel 2000 OK
Microsoft Powerpoint 2000 Use Paste Special... then Picture (Enhanced Metafile)
Microsoft Word XP OK
Microsoft Excel XP OK
Microsoft Powerpoint XP Use Paste Special... then Picture (Enhanced Metafile)
Microsoft Word 2003 OK
Microsoft Excel 2003 OK
Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 Use Paste Special... then Picture (Enhanced Metafile)
Microsoft Visio 2002 OK
